最近、英国の大思想家 H・G ウェルズ（注1）は、激しい言葉を発して言った。

「〔人の手によって〕組織〔化〕されたキリスト教（教会を指す）は、今日の難局から世界を救うことはできない。

 

《神の国》以下のものは、〔世界の〕救いを達成できない。そして時は、近づきつつある」と。

まことに教会の無能は、今やますます明白になりつつある。

 

〔制度〕教会は、バプテスマ（洗礼）を施（ほどこ）し信者を制作して、組織的団体を作った。〔そして、〕この世に多少の勢力を振るうことができた。

 

しかし〔教会は〕、罪悪の絶頂である戦争を止めることができなかった。また、止めようともしなかった（注2）。

 

少数の孤児を養うことはできたが、数多くの孤児を作ること（＝戦争）を阻止できなかった。

 

〔制度〕教会は、全体として戦争〔政策〕に賛成し、この世の王（＝権力者）たちとその罪を分け合った。それゆえ今や、神は教会を棄（す）てつつある（注3）。

そして教会に期待せず、〔神自ら〕直ちに《神の国》 を〔地に〕降（くだ）して、今日の難局から世界を救おうとされつつある。

 

そしてウェルズの言うように、その時は近づきつつあるのである（注4）。

​

人の失敗は、神の時機である。人〔間〕が組織した教会が無能に終わったときに《神の国》が実現し、〔そのことにより〕神の栄光は揚（あ）がるのである。

Herbert George Wells. 1866－1946．

イギリスの小説家、文明批評家。20世紀初頭の思想界に大きな影響を与えた。

​

1866年9月21日、ケント州ブロムリ（現ロンドンの一部）の貧しい商家に生まれ、8歳から13歳まで商業学校に通ったのち、徒弟奉公に出され、服地屋の丁稚（でっち）、薬剤師助手など職を転々とした。

​

1884年、奨学金を得てサウス・ケンジントンの理科師範学校（現・ロンドン大学理学部）に入学。

​

1888年、優等で同校を卒業。理科教師の生活に入ったが、まもなくジャーナリズムの世界に転じた。

​

この頃から小説を書き始め、95年に発表した処女作『タイムマシン』は好評を博し、今でもSF小説の古典となっている。

​

その後も、『透明人間』（1897）、『宇宙戦争』（1898）など科学小説を精力的に発表した。これらはその後、何度も映画化されている

​

これらの作品すべてに、日常生活の不安定さと未来の人類の位置とその没落が暗示されていることは、注目に値する。

​

20世紀に入り、文明批評的な関心が深まり、この時期にすでに原爆を使用した科学小説『解放された世界』（1914）等を書いている。

​

その後彼の社会的関心はますます強まり、予言者的言説を含む文明批評家として『世界文化史大系』20巻（1920）その他の歴史的著述もあり、百科全書的ジャーナリストとしてめざましい活躍をした。

Church and War

Recently, British great thinker H.G. Wells uttered fierce words.(Note 1)

​

"Christianity organized by human hands  (referring to the church) cannot save the world from today's turmoil.

​

The following Kingdom of God cannot achieve the salvation of the world.

And that time is approaching. "

Indeed, the incompetence of the church is now becoming more and more apparent.

The Institutional Church baptized, created believers, and formed organized groups. And it was able to wield some power in this world.

But the church could not stop wars, the culmination of sin. Also it did not try to stop. 

​

The church was able to feed a small number of orphans, but it could not prevent the creation of many orphans (= war).

The Institutional Church as a whole was in favor of war policy. It shared sins with the kings of the world (= powers). 

​

Therefore, God is now abandoning the church.
​
And without expecting the church, God himself is about to immediately drop the "Kingdom of God" to the earth and save the world from today's difficulties.

​

And, as Wells says, that time is approaching.
​
Man's failure is God's chance.

When the church organized by humans ends incompetently, the "Kingdom of God" will be realized, and [by doing so] the glory of God will rise.
